G.C. Murray II, Esq., DPL, received the 2019 Community Service award presented by the Tallahassee Barristers Association at the annual President’s Ball in August 2019.
“The Inaugural Community Service Award honors Barristers who have made a significant impact to the community through their works and volunteerism. We were proud to honor G.C. for his consistent contributions to our community initiatives as well as his work through the ICE Foundation,” said Jasmyne Henderson, Esq., Past President of the Tallahassee Barristers Association.
Murray was among the local heroes and living legends of the legal community honored at the annual President’s Ball.
Over the last 40 years, The Tallahassee Barristers Association has empowered minority lawyers and law students in the Greater Tallahassee area. The Barristers have accomplished this mission by upholding the highest standards of legal ethics and principles within the legal profession.
While presenting the inaugural Service award, Louis Jean-Baptiste, Esq., said “I can think of no one who deserves the Community Service Award more than G.C. Murray. His name should be G.C. ‘Community Service’ Murray because we have found that he is a man who stands and speaks for the community. […] service is the rent you pay for the space you occupy, and I have the pleasure of introducing a man who’s paid the mortgage bill.”
Murray has served as Deputy General Counsel, Special Counsel, and Director of Membership at the Florida Justice Association. In addition to his work at the Florida Justice Association, Murray operates Association GC which focuses on nonprofit management and consulting.
Murray’s community leadership roles including serving as Governor for the Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division, member of Leadership Tallahassee Class 32, and Leadership Florida Connect Class VII. Murray also founded the Innovative Community Engagement (ICE) Foundation which serves communities in Tallahassee, South Florida, Orlando, Naples, Jacksonville, Washington D.C., and Chicago. The ICE Foundation provides mentorship, service, and professional development in its servicing communities.
